The Danish Committee for Green Energy and Sector Coupling, in Danish, GESEK, which is short for ‘Komitéen for Grøn Energi og Sektorkobling’ held its founding annual meeting on 25 October 2022 at Haderslev Town Hall. The goal of the committee is to accelerate the green transformation of the energy sector and make the Southern Jutland region an attractive showcase for the export of green energy solution.
Around 40 business leaders, local politicians and organisational representatives gathered at Haderslev Town Hall on 25 October 2022 to officially establish the Committee for Green Energy and Sector Coupling. The purpose of the committee is to accelerate the green transformation of the energy sector with Southern Jutland as a starting point and hereby make the region an attractive showcase for the export of future Danish energy solutions.
At the annual meeting, Steen Brødbæk, CEO of Semco Maritime, unfolded the background of the project. In the spring of 202, he was appointed by Simon Kollerup, Minister of industry and Business, as the chairman of a Southern Jutlandic growth team. The team task was to formulate recommendations for a lighthouse for business development in the entire Southern Jutland region. The clear recommendation was to expand Southern Jutland’s already significant, strong position within future energy solutions, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and sector coupling. Sector coupling is the term covering the integration of various forms of energy with each other in practice.
The participants at the annual meeting voted to pass a set of statutes for the Committee and elected four company representatives to form the steering committee whose responsibility it is to set the direction for the Committee’s work.
